What makes me different? There are many photographers out there . . . so why should you hire me?

First, do you love the photos on my website? If the way I see appeals to your heart, that's a great reason. But if you're looking for a wedding photographer, or a family photographer, or a celebrations photographer, I believe it's very important that you really connect and feel comfortable with the photographer. You're going to spend a bunch of time with that person, and if you're not really at ease with her or him, you're not likely to get truly fabulous images. I am always striving to up my game, artistically and technically, and most important--to connect. I think being a warm and smiling and thoughtful presence at any event I'm photographing is of paramount importance. 

Photographs have been a lifelong love. My father, Irv Docktor, was an illustrator/artist who used photography in his work, and I was hanging out in the darkroom when I was just four years old!

Whether I'm photographing people, pets, or nature, I'm always looking for that kernel of magnificence to share with you. I want to make images that make you say, "Wow, I feel like I was there!" My goal is to make art for your walls that will make you smile every time you see it . . . to make outstanding images that move you, and stand the test of time . . . to be cherished for generations.

I live in the Hudson Valley, and will happily venture forth to New York City, North Jersey, The Berkshires, MA, CT, and anywhere you'd like me to be!

ABOUT YOUR SESSION: My goal is to create artwork for your home and heirlooms for your family. Each type of session comes with personal consultation on every detail--from initial concept to finished products--to make sure that you get exactly what you want. I want to produce images that you will not only LOVE but that will end up as heirloom art pieces for you and your family. Art pieces that will be cherished and gain value as time goes on. Here’s how it works:

FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHY: Sessions are usually about two hours of photography at the location of your choice. The investment for a family photo session is $350, with a $250 minimum print order. Travel fees apply beyond 30 miles.

PET PHOTOGRAPHY: Sessions are usually an hour or so at the location of your choice. These sessions start at $200, with a $300 minimum print order. Travel fees apply beyond 30 miles.

SENIOR PORTRAIT PHOTOS: on-location sessions designed to showcase the personality and interests of high school seniors. Is there something you love to do? I'll photograph you doing that! Senior Pictures are $250 for an on-location session, with a $300 minimum print order.

WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY: personal, heartfelt, photojournalistic style wedding coverage for straight or gay couples. To get great photographs of your wedding, you need to be comfortable and at ease with your photographer. We'll get together to make sure we are a good fit for each other, and I will work to please your eye, your heart, and your budget. 

I photograph many different types of weddings that involve anything from 2 to 8 hours on the wedding day. My preference is to do an "engagement" session before the wedding so that you can get comfortable in front of the camera, and we can get images that may be more intimate than what we are able to get on the actual wedding day. On the day itself, I strive to be a fun and loving presence capturing all the essential moments. A few weeks after the wedding we will view your images and select the ones we'll use in your album. EVENT PHOTOGRAPHY: Coverage of events, parties, celebrations for families, businesses, non-profits, and performances. Investment for event photography is $175/hour. Prints may be ordered on an a la carte basis. Licensing fees for use in advertising or marketing depends upon usage.

FINE ART PHOTOGRAPHY: My work has a peaceful beauty that is especially well suited to homes and healthcare environments, or any space which would benefit from being able to see exquisite images of the natural world. 

Please browse through my galleries to view landscapes and the natural world. Images can be custom-made to fit perfectly in your space in a beautiful variety of prints on canvas, metal, acrylic or paper prints traditionally framed.

YOUR INITIAL CONSULTATION: Based on what you are looking for in a final product, we’ll discuss where to make your photos and what to wear. You’ll have a chance to see some of my custom-designed collections and think about how you want to display the artwork in your home.

THE PHOTO SESSION: After we determine the location through our consult, the session usually takes about two hours, depending on your family. Sometimes we need to be patient and creative with younger children and pets. I like to let things unfold naturally, so that we get images that reflect real moments.

THE ORDERING SESSION: Approximately 2-3 weeks after your photo session, we will view all the images projected, so that you can envision how they will look on your walls. You’ll have the opportunity to choose your images and products at that time, and we’ll work together to help you with the selection process.
